I Think its All Over

What a day! I was up since early hours of the morning to be able to fit everything in. Had a pre-recorded radio interview with BBC Radio Scotland in the morning at the Millbank. On the way there I saw these Press TV advertisements on London's red buses, saying Press TV gives Voice to the Voiceless! You can imagine my frustration, we have the bus drivers union leaders in jail in Iran, the BBC Persian satellite signal funded by UK tax payers money is jammed sporadically, they want to kick out all the foreign journalists from Iran, citizen journalists taking film and photo are told they will be arrested. So who is the Voiceless who needs a voice? How much more of this exploitation of democracy?

I was at a meeting in central London when I heard the vicious attack on the Tehran university dormitories by the regime's hired thugs. I was told some students may have been killed. Then I heard the entire body of the university of lecturers have resigned in protest of the vicious attack.

I was stewarding the demonstration outside the Islamic Republic embassy in the afternoon, when I heard the numbers in Tehran have reached 2 million and sadly some demonstrators have been shot and killed. Then I was called by Aljazeera English for an interview at 9 pm. Finally when I came home my internet wasn't working!!! Arrrgh...

There is so much to post, I don't even know where to begin! but as I said on Aljazeera English, once the crowds reach 2 million that is it, there is no going back. This is the critical mass I have always talked about. This is what tips the balance, when people see such large numbers, their fear disappears and at the same time the riot guards become more unwilling to beat up the protesters and scared of their own future. We have now reached that point. So long as people lead with their demands and are not fooled by compromises designed to take the sting out of their momentum, then our day has finally come!

Can you hear it? Can you hear it?
This is the sound of heart beats

We are about to create a storm you have never seen before....

People demonstrating in the Metro. The SWP still thinks these are rich North Tehran kids :)))))))

This is much bigger than the election now. Moussavi and the color green are just symbols. It could be anybody or any color.

Those of us outside the country need to continue voicing our solidarity (WEAR GREEN) and combating the apologists and misinformers.

We also need to pressure our elected officials not to legitimize the sham elections and to speak up for Iranians. I have called both my senators, as well as my congressman. I urge every one to the same, whether you are in Europe or in the US. This kind of thing does work if enough us do it.

Or Canada! Our government has been very, very strong on expressing support for human rights overseas and they've shown it in many ways in the past few months, notably by refusing to attend the sham UN human rights conference in Europe at which (and because) Ahmadinejad was the opening speaker. I'm really proud of my country.

Great post. I will link to you and publish a small portion on my blog for my readers. Best of luck to you and your countrymen in winning democracy for your people.

"when I heard the numbers in Tehran have reached 2 million"

Even if it's only half of that, it's enormous. And that's just Tehran. What's happening in all the other cities?

Louise said...

Yochanan, you are so right and Hamas too. If this revolution topples the regime what a fantastic change we will see in the world. Keep going sons and daughters of Iran!!

I'm old enough to remember the embassy hostage crisis way back when. What a change! I just can't believe it.

In fact this is what I most remember.

Azarmehr, we need to get on the phones and work the phones 24/7. We need to tell our friends and family in Iran to stay on offensive until the regime is gone. Half measures won't work. I hope this is really the end of the mullahs for good.

Whilst I support the demonstrators (regardless of whether Ahmadinejad actually won or not) I still don't think it's unfair to say that these protests are based more predominantly in the more wealthy areas of north Tehran. This is not a blanket analysis and as wel all know things are never that simple in Iran. This isn't a fight just between classes or just between those who wear the chador and those who don't.

Hanif, Are you fucking blind you fucking cunt??? IU wish I could meet you and pulp your head to the fucking lamp post you piece of shit!

The only rich kid here, is you and your Socialist Wankers Party comrades

Leadership and organization is essential at this point, the regime is going to make desperate and bloody sweeps at this point. The answer is extreme unity, asymmetric acts, boycotts and decisive actions.

Hanif needs a his one way ticket to heaven, FAST.

Hanif,

Regardless of how these events turn out, it's moments like these that bring into crystal focus who the friends of freedom. Whether out of willful malice or just because you're misguided, have shown yourself not to be one of them. Read the reports out of the mainstream media or the blogosophere or the social networks, and you'll find that this uprising is spread all across the country and transcends class. To deny this is a crime against democracy.

Hanif the Kasif, the piece of shit, whose mother should be ashamed of having raised such a pile of kak. I suppose you have gone and done an account balance check of the 5 students who were beaten up to death and found out whether they were wealthy or poor before you could make up your mind. FUCK THE SWP< FUCK THE LOT OF THESE SHITES

Even the United Nations has condemned the regime. Democratic governments all over the world have, too.

but unfortunately our supreme leader Barack Obama and his other fascist cronies have yet to take a solid stance against the oppressive regime, and in fact has legitimized their rule with his spinelessness on the subject. ever the friend of dictators, President Obama will not back you up, sons and daughters of Iran. however, the people of the united states overwhelmingly stand against the Ahmadinejad regime, and stand for freedom and liberty. we are praying for you.

Sohrab,

Listen to yourself. You are such a Straussian-Bush PRODUCT: "Friends of freedom" hahaha. Jesus Christ. Who do you think you are?? I guess you just presumed you have the power to determine who is on "freedom's side" since you've heard some George Bush speeches and decided you liked them.

You are a joke buddy, so stop acting like you are naturally empowered to determine who's who just because you're drunk off of excitement. It's people who think like you that start killing the opposition if they ever get into power. You don't realize it, but YOU are freedom's foe. OoOo, that was a good one, no? Freedom's foe - e-mail that one to David Frum you neoconservative-nothing's-relative-schmuck.

In response to those idiots (useful or otherwise) who persist and claiming that these protests are mainly by the wealthy of North Tehran I am posting this clip:-

http://tinyurl.com/n5cqeq

Of course your critics may respond that they could be rich kids who dressed up as dustmen in order to fool the West as part of NeoCon-Zionist plot against the so called "winner" of this election.

I give up.

Hanif Leylabi said...

Simon - I said PREDOMINENTLY the protests were based from north tehran. A video of 15 or so workers at a demo doesn't really change that...

It's good that the protests have spread, please stop putting words in my mouth.

Sohrab said...

barmakid,

I won't call you barmakuni or barmakiri or, your favorite, retard.

Clearly there was something to what I said, otherwise Hanif would have responded. "Silence is compliance," as they say.

But let me clarify: I have never called for executions or anything of the sort. The regime has wounded our nation by resorting to enough torture and execution to last us all a lifetime.

And no, I am not some Bushian demagogue. Demagogy is about lying to the people. And that's the exact opposite of what I'm doing. It is however, precisely what Hanif, et al are doing. Except they do it through obfuscation, that is, by looking at the same thing as everyone else and drawing a false conclusion designed to confuse the outside world and delegitimize the people on the street.

That's demagogy and it, indeed, a crime against liberty.

Azarmehr said...

Hanif,

Whether the protests spread or didn't YOU ARE A TRAITOR AND A SCUMBAG! WE WILL NEVER FORGET HOW YOU ANF TUFTY COMRADES IGNORED HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN IRAN FOR 30 YEARS

One trait of rich kids who think they are Socialists is THEY DON'T SEE AREVOLUTION WHEN IT HAPPENS. RIGHT IN MIDDLE OF THE MASSES BEING SHOT AND BEATEN UP THEY WOULD BE HAVING MEETINGS DISCUSSING DIALECTICAL MATERIALISM AND ASSUMING HOW CLEVER THEY ARE :)))))

GET LOST HANIF.

I'm so sorry for whats happening to the Iranian people. For years, they have been portrayed as inhumane beasts, murdering innocent women and children... What was never shown was the other side. How Iranians themselves are prisoners of a truly terrible regime, and worse still, a regime that acts in the name of religion.

What a cruel thing to do, to take away what is sometimes the only light at the end of the tunnel for many people, that which gets them through sadness and sometimes catastrophe, their belief in a higher benevolent power. Whether or not one believes it is immaterial, it is what can be the difference between life and death of ones hope.

For this regime to say they are doing it in the name of God is unforgivable. What God would wish for his or her creations to be shot for merely voicing their opinions, for using the arms and legs they were given to carry them to the streets in order to do so.

Religion aside, from a humanitarian point of view, what kind of Government has so little respect, it murders it's own people? Not only the old, who should at any rate be respected,, but young, bright students, whose whole life is ahead of them, full of dreams and hopes...How would anyone contemplate ending the life of another with broken bones, their blood spread over the street and their clothes dishevelled...Only someone who is so full of hatred and anger...someone who is not best placed to decide the affairs of humanity, and certainly not those of the Iranian people.

Like the Burmese people, the monks, and the Chinese people at Tiananmen square, your students are a lesson in bravery to all of us, I salute them.
I too will be phoning my government to ask them what they are doing, in the meantime, my green band is on and my candle is lit. I wish you a time when you can walk and talk and sing without fear, just as the Persions did for thousands of years, I wish you peace and success, and I wish for you a voice that is heard loud and clear...
